Synchrosound

Synchrosound- The Johansen Method is a music-based program developed by Kjeld Johansen, Phd, M.Sc., along with composer Bent Holbech of ROTNA music. It is a noninvasive listening program that can be individualized and utilized at home or in the school setting to help increase the brain’s awareness of sounds, and in particular speech sounds.

The music is specifically formatted to stimulate the left hemisphere for speech via the right ear, utilizing binaural beats to enhance communication between the two hemispheres, and allowing for the adjustment of the volume of specific sounds.

Through the use of this music and the formatting following the Johansen Method, several individuals with a variety of diagnoses benefit from listening. These include, but are not limited to, auditory processing deficit, dyslexia, developmental delay, specific learning difficulties, autism, speech/language delay, sensory integration/processing, and difficulties with attention.

How It Works?

To begin the program, an initial assessment must be completed by a registered Synchrosound Provider. The assessment consists of obtaining background information, and if possible, a Listening Profile should be completed to determine awareness levels and ear preference for listening to speech sounds. Additional standardized tests may also be recommended upon completion of the assessment and a music program will be recommended by the Synchrosound Provider or Director.

The music will be completed and downloaded onto a listening application that can be utilized on the phone or tablet. The music is listened to using over the ear stereo headphones for a 10-15 minute period each day. A Listening Profile will be completed by the Synchrsound Provider every 6-8 weeks to reformat the music based on any new changes. Typically, listening will be completed within a 3 to 6 month period.
